Our History

ood News For Africa (GNFA) was born in the late 1980’s and has continued to grow and expand over the last two decades to include a variety of ministries throughout the country of Mozambique.

 

Its history starts when Jacob Michael, GNFA’s founding member, began visiting Mozambique several times a year. This was the time in Mozambique’s history when the civil war was still raging throughout the country. Sights of cars that had been shot up could be seen along the road when they made their visits to churches.

 

In 1992 several missionaries entered Mozambique and were given land to start building a base to work from in Maputo, the capital city. This would be GNFA’s launching point in the years to come.

 

Over time more missionaries decided to join this group in order to teach Mozambicans more about the Bible and the Good News of Jesus Christ.

 

Originally the organization centered solely around teaching preachers, leaders, evangelists and other ministers. Yet, many other needs were soon to appear.

 

Literacy work for the thousands not able to read, development work to help ease the population’s physical needs, a training school to formalize and expand what had already been happening locally, are only a few examples of the ministries that have begun.

 

In 1998 GNFA expanded into the northern part of the country to include the province and city of Nampula. From there a seminar based ministry for teaching churches in the bush was formed as well as a city ministry that was launched to reached out to the masses that flock to the growing urbanization.

 

Later in 2004 GNFA was able to expand further into territories where little or no church work was being done. The two northern provinces of Cabo Delgado and Niassa are now launching points for evangelism and teaching.

 

There are still more pages to be written in the chapters of GNFA’s history to be sure. So many people in Mozambique need to hear the Good News. Many people groups and provinces still need good workers who want to use their talents and gifts for the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
